This June the Canarian mezzo-soprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera is returning to the Holy Land to sing one of her favourite roles, Bizet’s Carmen, in the spectacular Masada Festival which takes place in the middle of the Israeli desert on the shore of the Dead Sea. It will be within the programme of large opera productions organised each year by the Israeli Opera; in 2010, more than 42,600 people were able to enjoy Nabucco and last year more than 45,000 did so with Aida. Conducted by Daniel Oren, Nancy Fabiola Herrera will sing in three performances – including the opening of the Festival on the 7th June – in a monumental production which will be directed by Giancarlo del Monaco with costumes by the also Spanish Jesús Ruiz.

Nancy Fabiola Herrera is currently one of the most outstanding singers on the international opera circuit.  Her quintessential performance of the lead in Carmen has taken her to theatres and festivals such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, the Verona Arena, the San Sebastián Quincena Musical, the Terme di Caracalla, Los Angeles Opera and the cities of Tokyo, Tel Aviv, Dresden, A Coruña and Jerez de La Frontera, among others.  She debuted the role in November 2011 at the Berlin Deutsche Oper, in February 2012 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is to debut in January 2013 at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.
